My path and inspiration .........
When I see the light bouncing through the leaves, I'm reminded of nature's subtle beauty and those quiet moments that often go unnoticed. My passion for florals and deep connection to nature are woven into my work like a golden thread, drawing inspiration from the ever-shifting rhythms, light, and patterns of the world around us. Born in the Netherlands on a floriculture farm, I moved to South Africa with my family as a young girl. The heart of the Cape Winelands, with its scenic landscapes, became the perfect backdrop for a creative journey, which continued with a degree in visual art and education from Stellenbosch University.
I'm drawn to the ocean, the wild, chaotic beauty of water, which, combined with peaceful order, captivates me, and whether kayaking in a nearby nature reserve or running along trails, I love soaking up nature's vibrancy, which rejuvenates and energizes me. My life experiences serve as the wellspring of my inspiration, guiding the energy that infuses my canvas. An inner spark of energy onto the canvas, expressing emotions and thoughts that flow from within. The creative process can be messy, raw, or calm and transformative.
I'm deeply grateful for the recognition and awards my work in painting, photography, and mixed media has received. With over 2,500 pieces finding new homes, and my art being published, collected, and exhibited both locally and internationally, in the USA and the Netherlands, and included in investment collections like Rand Merchant Private Bank's, this journey has been unexpectedly fulfilling. I truly appreciate every opportunity and am thankful for the support and kindness I've encountered along the way.
On a personal note, after marrying Johan-Paul, we settled in Irene, Gauteng. Initially, we planned to stay for a few years, but life had other plans. Fast forward 24 years, and you guessed it, we're still here, raising our five amazing boys and tending to a lively brood of chickens. I find joy in my art studio while balancing teaching art at an international school, guiding students in visual and digital media arts while embracing life's adventures.
